Beaches & Islands

Clear waters, blue sky, and countless stars.
Normally an island might be considered a beach resort place, but Taiwan is not as well known for its beaches as some other Asian destinations, but there are beautiful coastlines and great coastal towns that you might want to discover during your stay in Taiwan.  Because of the unique composition of the island, there are different types of beaches.

While Taiwan’s beaches are wild and deep on the East coast and the South, they are not developed enough to be regarded as beach resort places, on the North and West coasts.

On the island, probably, the best spot to relax on the white beach is Kenting. But is on the offshore islands that you can find the best beaches, first of all, in the archipelago of Penghu, which offers some of the most beautiful beaches around.

Rarely visited by outside travelers XiaoliuQiu, is another little gem, a very small island in the south, that offers some small beaches and is famous for being the home of many turtles and a paradise for snorkelers. Another very little island to explore is Yu Guang, in frond of Tainan, a nice alternative if you don’t want to stay in the city!

If you are looking for a place that has a wild, traditional atmosphere and beautiful beaches, check out Green Island or Orchid Island. In order to preserve the local culture and environment, there are no resorts on the island and this is also the reason why these islands are unspoiled.
Different atmospheres you can find it in  Matzu,  especially during the time of the Tears of Matzu, a bioluminescent sea phenomenon, only possible in a clean and polluted-free environment.

Once a forbidden military zone,  Kinmen  is only 3 km away from Mainland China. It was on the front line of hostilities between China and the ROC for nearly 30 years (1949-1978) during the Cold War. Because of its past it has a remarkable history, still visible today.

Diving,  snorkeling, SUP,  or just relax on the beach, Taiwan has it all!
