⇒ Introduction
Green Island or Ludao , located 21 miles off the eastern coast of Taiwan, is the perfect place to escape the congested mainland. No traffic noise or pollution here; just the coast, green mountains and plush vegetation. A tiny island, with just over 3000 residents makes this a great peaceful escape from a busy urban life.
⇒ How to go to Green Island
Green island can be reached by ferry and plan from Taitung.
♦ By plane:
You can take a flight from Taitung Airport to Green Island for about 15 minutes. As the aircraft is tiny, the seats are limited to 19 passengers so you should book your seats in advance.
♦ By boat:
During the peak season (June to October), the boat will come around every 2 hours or so and if you are lucky, you might even encounter dolphins. During the off peak season, there will only be three shifts going to Green Island. It’s highly recommended that you check the schedule out in advance as it often change.
Each boat ride is about 40 to 60 minutes, but remember this is the wild ocean and the conditions of the sea can be instable.
⇒ Getting around
Most of the locals go around via motorbikes, so naturally the most effective way of getting around Green Island is by motorbike. You can admire the scenic views of the sea and sunset while riding along the roads on your way down the mountain.
Rental price (around): NTD 300 Pumping petrol: A complete trip around Green Island is about 20km, NT 100 (USD $3) of fuel is enough to travel around Green Island twice. The island’s only gas station is in Nanliao Village and its operating hours are 8:00 – 17:00.

♦ Experience hand-made peanut candy/peanut tofu:
Experience the art of of making flavored peanut candy and peanut tofu, as it was in the ancient time. Meeting time: 09:00 every day (Friday, Saturday and Sunday reservations are available from October to May in the off-season, and Tuesdays on public holidays from June to September in the peak season.)
Activity time: 60 minutes, peanut tofu takes 90 minutes ( it will take some time to press the tofu, it is recommended to go to Human Rights Park during the free time )

♦ Bonito rod fishing:
Bonito rod fishing is an ancient fishing method that is about to be lost on Green Island. You will catch a bonito, clean it and cook in the very authentic and ancient method.
Meeting time: 15:00 every day (Friday, Saturday and Sunday reservations are available from October to May in the off-season, and Tuesdays on public holidays from June to September in the peak season.)
Activity time: 90 minutes.

♦ Hermit Crab Housing Agency:
Many tourists pick up shells on the beach to take home or to sell in souvenir shops; the results is homeless hermit crabs. Occasionally, kind-hearted people sent shells back to the volunteer in Green Island, to support this unique real estate! You will clean and replace a shell in its natural environment. Wait until a Hermit crab will find it and make of it his new home!

♦ Snorkeling: Dancing with the Sea Friendly
Green Island has rich marine resources and world-class diving landscapes. We plan the Green Island snorkeling experience adhering to the sustainable management method of friendly oceans,. Professional instructors will explain the delicate marine ecology and teach how to wear equipment correctly. Feeding fishes is forbidden. After snorkeling enjoy some local snacks and drinks.
Meeting time: 10:00, 14:00 daily (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday reservations are available from October to May in the off-season, and Tuesdays on public holidays from June to September in the peak season.)

♦ Ready to go fishing!
Prepare to board on a fishing boat in the evening, remember to eat a small snack before departure, otherwise you will be too hungry because it’s no jokes here! Tuna, bonito, and small tube are the targets!
Meeting time: 17:00 every day.

♦ Diving:
Professional scuba instructors will explain you the diving equipment and basic scuba skills, experience the deep-sea and explore the natural beauty of the seabed, which will definitely amaze, Green Island is really a paradise for scuba divers!

♦ Green Island Human Rights Memorial Park:
Surrounded by sea, Green Island is an isolated island that holds a dark history as the largest political prison during the Chinese Civil War, better known as White Terror, from 1950s to 1980s. Its interior is divided into two sections, New Life Correction Center and Green Island Reform and Reeducation Prison. Tour with English speaking guide.

We’ve heard of underwater world, but an undersea hot spring? You probably never heard of them because of how rare undersea hot springs are. There’s only three undersea hot springs in the world — Italy, Japan, and right here on Green Island, Taiwan. The Zhaori Hot Spring It is one of the three saltwater hot springs in the world
